About
WR Ranch is a fifth generation Angus ranch located in Central Minnesota. Richard Wiese ranched with his father Eldon until 1988, at which point WR Ranch was born. Today, the ranch is operated by Richard and his wife Shirley, Richard's daughter Juanita with her son and daughter.
There have been lots of trends and changes within the Angus breed and cattle industry over the years. We believe in staying in that middle balance. Extremes in any one direction will have a negative impact on another area. Keeping the cowherd consistant in maternal, carcass and other genetic traits keeps the calf crops uniform, as there are not any real extremes in the pedigrees that may show up. Every cattlemen wants their calves to closely follow their genetics and the traits of their sire and dams.
Low birth weights result in easy calving, 99%+ of the cowherd calves unassisted. Our breeding program is a careful planning of some of the top balanced trait AI sires and some herdsires that we have raised. The quality of the cattle speaks for itself in looking at our cowherd, their calves and on paper. Chasing numbers alone is no guarantee of functional cattle that will stand up thru the generations. Cattle bred on looks alone may not be real functional. There has to be a balance, that balance is our goal.
We are proud to hold an Annual Production Sale the 4th Saturday in April offering 50 yearling bulls and 40 females. Come on out for Lunch on Sale Day, Roast Beef with all the Fixings.
