COMMUNITY SERVING ACTION PEQUOT LAKES Community Action of Pequot Lakes THE COMFeatures Member Cathy Malecha CAPL member, Cathy Malecha, moved to Pequot Lakes in June of 1978 when she and her late husband, Al, bought Lake Region Grocery (in the spot that Leslie's is today). Over the years, she has managed numerous Pequot businesses and even found time to be Mayor of the community for 3 terms. Cathy, one of the original Board Members, helped the Pequot Lakes Community Library come to be what it is today. These days, starting each September, she is one of three Board Member's that conceived and continue run the Christmas for Vets program, organizing volunteers to put wreaths on the graves of veterans at holiday time throughout the area. The first year, there were 189 graves honored; this number is now at 450. If you are interested in volunteering or donating $15 toward the cost of a wreath, you can reach Cathy at 218-568-4488.
